Class Etiquette

The following section provides information on how classes are run. We ask that you follow these simple rules to ensure that both you and your fellow students have a positive experience while training;

Be punctual - Please ensure that you make it to class on time to minimise disruption for others
Cleanliness - Please ensure that your Gi or other training attire is clean and odour free. Its not pleasant for other students. It should really be washed after every lesson
Warm Ups - Always ensure you are warmed up appropriately, it reduces the risk of injury
Warm Down - Always ensure you warm down, this reduces risk of injury and muscle soreness
Jewellery - Please dont wear jewellery as it may get broken, lost or may be the cause of an injury to you. Eg an earring may accidentally get caught in a Gi while wrestling
Listen - If the instructor is talking you should be listening.
Nails - Please ensure fingernails, etc are short
Submitting - If you are in an uncomfortable position, have had enough or in a submission tap firmly on your partners body. If you tap on the mat or tap softly they may not feel it. It is your responsibility to tap. If you cannot tap with your hands use your feet and/or say stop loudly enough for your partner to hear. They should stop immediately.
Questions - If you have any questions please address the instructor when they have finished speaking
Footwear - Only bare feet or approved wrestling boots are to be worn on the mats. Sneakers, Heels, etc will destroy the mats incredibly quickly.
Mouthguards - Mouthguards are recommended safety equipment, it is very easy to get accidentally knocked in the mouth, particulary when sparring.
Groin Protection - Groin guards, cups, boxes are highly recommended
Student Behaviour - If your partner is being overly enthusiastic or acting in a manner that makes you uncomfortable ask them to stop/slow down. If they dont notify your instructor. Please remember not everyone wants to train at a million miles an hour
Applying Submissions - Some BJJ maneuvers can severly damage your partner, be very careful with all moves and particularly any moves that involve hyper extension of a limb. Apply them slowly and in a controlled fashion. If you continually injure your training partners they have every right to refuse to work with you.
Prohibited Moves - No leg attacks are to be attempted when working with white belts and only on senior belts by mutual agreement.

Remember if you look after your partner they will look after you.
